I've had one for almost a year and I haven't touched our chop saw since. With a little practice I can make a cut faster and squarer with the porta-band than with the chop saw and it's cheaper to use too.

Thought they was called "deep throat". Maybe you can't say that anymore.

The Milwaukee is made to stand up to construction work, so in home use it will last a lifetime if bought new. I bought a used one with variable speed and it lasted 10 years before a drive part broke. The repair was easy and cost reasonable.
Variable speed is very usefull, but I have trouble keeping the speed constant with the trigger speed control. A thumb wheel control would be better. I think the newer ones have it.

I agree with the others who have endorsed the Milwaukee which is far and away the best portable that I have used or owned. Go to any major industrial construction site and see what saws last the longest. Milwaukee has no peer from amongst any brand that I have seen, same with the 4 1/2" grinders. BTW, the DeWalts last about a month on a real job from what I`ve seen, I`m not very impressed.

I owned a Rockwell Portaband which was a decent tool but purchased a Milwaukee dep cut when they came out. I only owned the Rockwell because I got it cheap and always had Milwaukees available at work.

I agree about Milwaukee as well. The more I use Dewalt tools, the more I like Milwaukee. I like the light on the Dewalt, but that's it. Alot of peolpe just have trouble with bandsaws in general. Constantly rocking it back and forth, gyrating all over the place instead of just letting it cut. Make a line and follow it seems easier said than done. If they can't handle the bandsaw, you don't dare put them on a thin cutting wheel and a grinder.

Yea the Millwakee is the best I hear. I own a
cheap porta-band its a chicago electric, but it does a good job for me. I'd really like that big
Millwakee or a Dewalt.

Where do you get new blades? I bought a Harbor Freight portable on sale and found out that it takes non standard blades. So I returned it and bought a used Milwaukee deep cut for $60 more. Including case. The blades are 3/$10.

I have a HF 2 speed and a Milwaukee variable speed and use the same blades on both saws. I use Starett blades with good results on both saws. Don't bother buying the cheaper HF blades, as the teeth seem to want to disapear quite quickly.

Dusty MI, When I bought the HF bandsaw long ago, I found the blades were not the standard 44-7/8" long. I didn't want to drive 40 miles round trip thru commuter traffic to buy HF replacements so I bought a Milwaukee saw. Now blades are 2.4 miles away 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week. And Grainger is 7 miles.

I have a Milwaukee deep cut. I bought this to replace a Porter Cable standard cut that broke down. The Milwakee is a much sturdier machine and easy to get parts for (took 3 weeks to get parts for the PC. One note, the 3rd time I used the Milwaukee, one of the guide rollers came off and jammed in the drive wheel breaking it and the drive chain. It received and all expenses paid trip back to the factory for a complete rebuild. So their warranty is very good too. Luckly I had the Porter Cable back running by then.

The Milwaukee deep cut has a cutting depth of approx. 5 1/2" from the teeth of the band to the frame arch. Wheras the standard cut is only about 3 1/2" to 4".
