Has anyone out there given any thought to making their own wood pellets for their stoves? I am trying to get some ideas to press pellets out of hardwood saw dust.

I don't think there is any glue involved in the process. Only the natural resins that are in the wood. You have to have a special machine that is like a press that puts the sawdust under tons of pressure to form a pellet..Probably costs half a million dollars!

So if I made a machine with my hydraulic press and made 20 pellets a day, I wouldn't get far. (grin) There just isn't any good way to get around the need for energy unless a person wants to be a hermit.

You would have to have 100's of pounds of saw dust to make worth while, I burn on average 40lbs of pellets/day and about 40 pounds of corn per day. I think that a type of wax or something is used as a binding agent for the pellets and then pressed in a mold.
