I have a craftsman air compressor that has been a dandy till now.I took the head off to discover the thinnest reeds are both broke off at the screws. Is there a good place to get these other than Sears or is Sears gonna be my only choice? If I had two used ones I could be back in buiseness quickly. Thanks

How old is it? When I was in college Campbell Hausfeld made compressors for Sears, also for Montgomery Ward and John Deere. We were told that 90% of the compressors in America (in 1977) were made by Campbell Hausfeld, so you might want to check there for parts.

Different color paint, different plastic shields, and different decals were the only difference between brands. The compressors were all the same.

Shim stock, or feeler guage stock. Make your own new reeds. Measure the thickness of the broken reeds, and buy shim staock in the same guage, or thickness. Cut it to length, trim for width, and you should be good to go.

A year ago, I repaired a friend's Sears "oilless" air compressor.

I found a site on the 'net that had parts, and got prices that I thought weren't too bad.

Before I ordered, I decided to check on the Sears website, and the parts were a little CHEAPER, which REALLY surprised me. I figured they would "get" me on the shipping, which Sears parts has done in the past. However, this time, anyway, it was reasonable, "at cost".

So, unless the compressor is ancient, it's worth at least checking with Sears. If you go to the parts section of their website, there's a place to enter the model #, and look the parts up yourself.
