Laminate flooring

I am getting ready to install a laminate wood floor. Install looks fairly straight forward, with the base/trim to be the hardest part. They want at least a 1/2" clearance around all walls so the floor floats. Most trim is 1/2" or less and I don"t want to use trim and 1/2" quarter round. Can I just trim the drywall for the 1/2" clearance and drop the trim down to the floor? I would to keep it clean and close to the wall as possible. Jake

Do yourself a big favor and make sure to bring the flooring into the house for several days to dry out in case it picked up a lot of moisture where it was stored. If the lengths start shrinking very much in a larger covered area, they can make a gap in the ends.

I ran hardwood floor throughout some of my house. A trick worth knowing: Instead of pulling off all of the door jamb trim, use a flush cut pull saw and cut it in place. I used a scrap of flooring to accurately cut the height. Just hold the scrap, place the saw on top, and pull. Can find them everywhere - $8.00 or so for a plastic Stanley.

You can take a razer knife and cut the bottom of your drywall so the floor can slide under it to gain alittle .

Me and a friend just finished my whole house, it was very easy.....1/4" all around the wall is good enough.....use the trim thats opisite of quarter round (you know dish in not round) 3/4" works best keeps the vacuum sweeper off the baseboard.....tapp the end joints with a piece of scrap and a hammer...the trim is the hardest.....good luck, its easy..... Have a floor B�in installed rite now, the guy has sum 2x2 x �� spacers he izz using to keep the spacing around the wall the same. He also had a special type skill saw that he used to saw fer the floor to fit under the door molding or were the floor fits under trim werk. He has a few special tools to tap the floor in place and a few saws set up to cut it. I spec sept fer the many trips out side to cut it it�s a rite ez job to do. I find no remodel�in job ez so soon as pay sumone else. I spent 3 hours in Lowes last week trying to figger this stuff out, would have been EZ sept the floor man took a 2 hr lunch break and came back 30 min. before they closed. Next time I will call fer a appointment.

do laminate flooring for a living, 1/4 inch all the way around is plenty of clearance for floor to float. good luck and have fun
