I am working on a Gardner Denver model AVSAOB air compressor. It has no oil pressure. Bearings have been replaced and the oil pump appears good. Any suggestions?

Is the oil pump rotation-dependent (many are)? If so, make sure rotation is correct with regards to markings on the flywheel or crankcase. Is there a filter screen on the pickup tube that may be plugged? Does this pump run off the crankshaft? If so, is there a seal between the oil pump drive and the crankshaft (an o ring usually)? If it is a vane pump, the springs that push the vanes out might be broken or slack. The vanes themselves may be worn out. The shaft that drives the pump may be sheared. Oil passages may be plugged. Oil pressure regulator may be faulty. If the oil pickup tube can be unbolted from the crankcase, it may be loose, or have a bad gasket allowing air into the suction line preventing the oil pump from priming. These are what I would begin to look for, based on my experience with Quincy pressure lubricated pumps.

The screen is clean. It is a gerotor (sp?) type pump that automatically positions it"s self for rotation in either direction. Priming does not help either. TIA.

How does it auto-adjust for rotation? If it's a rotating sleeve inside the pump, I'd make sure it is in the proper orientation, since these can be unreliable. You can manually position them with a sharp pin punch and some light hammer taps, at least on a Quincy. I haven't worked on a GD pressure lube oil pump, so I am a bit in the dark here. Are the rotors turning? Are there any plugs missing from the crankshaft (oil galley plugs)? Some pictures would really help.

It now has 20 psi pressure running either direction. For lack of a better explanation, there is a stop pin that was dragging in it's groove in a disc sandwiched to the rotor assy. I know it's a poor explanation. Thankyou for your comments.
