i have been having prombloms with vcr's around here. any of you guys know the proper way to clean theese. i open them up and clean every where the tape touches with Q-tip & rubbing alcohol. it only seems to fix the promblom for a day or to. i have gone threw 4 of them in the kids room. i dont know what they do to them but i keep having to clean or just throw them out { a couple had toys in them}. im thinking maybe thier tapes are dirty from food, juice and so on{ 3 & 4yr old}. i am down to 3 vcr's left out of 7, and only my old 80's model quasar works. i have never had a promblom with my quasar, but that one stays in the living room. i dont think i am cleaning theese right. i bought a vcr cleaner tape and that worked a couple of times, but not allways. i am having troubles with bad picture, fuzzy screen, or a greyish black swirly screen with no picture. theese kids a hellins i tell'ya. any suggestions ?.

Ok here we go with this one. Dirt is a REAL killer in video equipment. THe next is Cr--pola tapes. They shed oxide and plug everything up. Also they use a cheep binder and that leaks out too.Purchas FUgi, Sony ,TDK, or other good brand name tapes. Program tapes that you purchas are really cheep tape and are not ment for a whole lot of uses. My viewing is done with about 97% DVD and they hate dust and finger prints. This is not a win win area you are in. VHS machines are cheep and when they blow up just toss them out. The correct way to clean a VCR head is WITH the spin of the head. NEVER go up and down to clean cause it will spred the micro sized waffers in the head itself. I NEVER use a cleaner tape that is dry. It is a mild type of SAND PAPER! Buy the wet type where you put a COUPLE of drops of alcohal on it and then run it through the machine. Kids are a dust and dirt storm on the hoof and Elctrical equipment with a static charge on it just sucks it up. Clean the tv screen and see how much crud is on it. Going off track a little. My Dad has gone through three CD players in about nine years and just can"t figger out wqhy. "Well pop you have this right next to you wood shop and it sucks in that saw dust." OH WELL. Jeffcat

Just take it out of their room and they get by without it till they can learn to take care of it . I never had any of these kind of gadgets in my bedroom as a kid . Just got a computer a couple of years ago . And i"m 47 .Works for me.

I suspect you are running contaminated tapes in them. Pop spilled into a tape ruins it and it will mess up the VCR with just a few seconds of playing.

most of the older vcr's were able to be cleaned. use denatured alcohol and a chamois stick as any other kind of alcohol will leave a residue and any other kind of cleaning stick will leave fuzz. i don't know about cleaning the newer models as my newest vcr is about 10 years old. call and ask the folks at radio shack. they could probably advise you.

Get foam brushes not qtips. The qtip is leaving fuzzies you can't see in the vcr. Radio Shack should have foam cleaning brushes. Keep the whole box in a ziplock bag. Fuzzies getting on your cleaning brushes will make things worse fast.

Use denatured alcohol...rubbing alcohol leaves a residue. Also...it's a whole lot easier to get a vcr cleaning tape....just put it in and run it through for a few seconds...it also uses de natured alcohol. There is no other way.
