Options for lights around pond area. Weddings etc

I have an area around a pond that I would like to light sometimes during the night for special occasions etc. I am considering the following. 1. Electric lights on posts. May go with these, as long as I do not have to use low voltage. I just have never had good luck with them and the color for the soloar is poor as far as I am concerned. 2. Gas lights. Fixtures are expensive. Probably would not be able to afford the cost of running them 24/7 but I do like their looks. 3. Fuel oil lights. Fuel is cheap, I can make my own. I can brew my own diesel, but maintenance is high (?) No personal experience here, but my mother grew up on a farm in Missouri in the 20's and never had a kind word for them.

Any ideas, comments etc.?

You might want to do a little research on fiber optic lighting. It's perfect for any areas around water, since all the electrical is far away from it.

Make sure to check out the latest solar lights. I had some older ones that I didn't really like (ugly yellow light color, plastic housing, etc), but lately they've been coming out with some really nice ones. I've got a couple of sets with aluminum housings and nice bright white/blue lights.
