24volt Lincoln portable welder wiring?

My dad recently got an old Lincoln portable welder...a Lincwelder 225, with Onan CCKA engine. It is in pretty rough shape, but would like to get it running to see if it even works. Of course there were no batteries in it.

After doing some reading here, I've seen that it is a 24 volt system, but we are unsure how to hook up the batteries. And we would like to make sure the rest of the wiring is right....does anyone have a wiring diagram for this welder? Not even sure if the coil is 12 volt, or 24 volt, etc?

Been to the Lincoln website, and got a copy of the operators manual, and parts diagrams, but couldn't find a wiring diagram. Any idea where to get one?

Thanks,
Brandon

From what I've read, it uses the generator to crank over the engine to start, requiring 24 volts. It has a tray big enough for two 12 volt batteries. Just trying to make sure it is wiring right, as it has been sitting for a while, and who knows what done to it!

As far as connecting the batteries to get 24 volts, it's pretty easy. If using 12 volt batteries connect the neg. of one battery to the ground cable then the pos. to the neg. of second battery and pos. to the pos. cable. If using six volt batteries it's the same just more connections and batteries. On most 24 volt systems the starting circuit is 24 volts and everything else is 12 volts.
