I purchased a 14.4v cordless drill from Ridgid back when Home Depot first rolled out that line of tools. To get in on the market, they offered the lifetime service, as well as batteries for the life of the tool. (I did notice that they didnt say what the lifetime of the tool was supposed to be...)

I have been very happy with the drill so far, as I have used it for both personal and professional use. Its got plenty of power and torque, and the batteries held up for a good long time when they were new. I used it for building a deck, and also for hanging lots of sheetrock. I need to replace them before too long, so Ill see how that goes.

If I had the choice, I would definitely buy the drill again, as it has been quite useful.

That said, I wouldnt buy any power tool based on its warranty only. I dont like the idea of only getting stuff because of what might happen when it breaks....

I just bought the 24 volt Li-Ion set and so far, i have been very happy with it. I was the little things that sold me: the lifetime service agreement, the price ($399) for the set, and things like teh Jacobs 700 series chuck on the drill itself.

All in all, I am not dissatisfied with my purchase.

Several months ago, I was considering buying a Rigid cordless drill. I e-mailed Rigid through their website to ask if there really was a guarantee on the batteries. Their answer was that, if a battery failed, you have to bring it to an authorized Rigid repair shop, NOT Home Depot, and that a representative there would decide if the battery was defective or abused. The website had a link to find the authorized repair shops, and the nearest to me was over 50 miles away. Based on that, and the fact that they might decide not to replace a battery, I bought a Hitachi cordless drill, which I"ve been very happy with.

It"s possible that Rigid has changed their policy in the past few months. If you could exchange any worn out Rigid battery at Home Depot for a new one, I would definitely have bought the Rigid drill.

I have a 12 volt heavy duty drill and back in nov. i had a problem with it , now when i bought it the BIG SIGN SAID By any RIDGID CORDED OR CORDLESS TOOL BEFORE DEC. 31 2003 and it was LIFE TIME REPLACEMENT. Well they had already gave me one free battery because it had started to leak with out to much hassel but when the other battery leaked and ate the contacts in the drill the FIGHT WAS ON as they would not replace the drill , first off they don't make that one anymore but they would FIX it and had promised me that i would have my drill backthe fowolling tuesday BY NOON well at 1:30 i went out to get my drill and here it was not back as promised and being that i have a real short fuse and a vary bad temper i sorta came unglued and had harsh hostial words with the assit. store manager who in turn got the store manager who inturn called ridgid and i had real strong harsh hostial words with then in the TRUCK drivers english as never promise me something that ya can't deliver . Well with all my fighten fuden and threts i got my drill back the next day fixed with two new batterys plus the 14 inch Ridgid bandsaw that i have been eyeballen and 10% off all of my purchases for the next year as i threathened them with taking all of my business to Lowes on this old house remodel as we had already dropped over 5 grand at homer depot and i have not totaled up yet what Lowes has gotten off us at this point . But anyhow the warranty is a LIFE TIME SERVICE DEAL INCLUDING THE BATTERYS . I also learned that here in the vary near future that they are going to the lithium ION batterys so ya may want to wait till they hit the sheilfs . As for power this 12 volter is a wrist twister or a bit breaker and will twist a #12 wood screw in half in the blink of and eye I has POWER .Always remember the WHEEL THAT SQUEEKS THE LOUDEST GETS THE GREASE !!!!!
