We are in a transition mode. Our old set started having picture trouble--some white lines across the top. I thought about a new HDTV and looked at a bunch of them, but to get the approximate size that fits our entertainment center, the prices start at about $800 and go way up. And it has seemed to me that almost every electronic device is very expensive when they first come out, but after a few years are much, much cheaper. Like Computers, Digital Cameras, DVD and CD Players and hand calculators... So I found a real nice 27 inch picture tube TV for less than $200. It has a digital tuner and can receive the HDTV stations in our area as well as the old stations. It also works fine with the DVD player/hard drive recorder and our Dish Network receiver. The picture tube color TV is very mature technology and it has a wonderful picture. And if it goes bad, I'm only out $200. I get the Dish Network magazine and I have not read anything about their changing their signals. They have added some HDTV channels, of course at extra cost, but I can get along just fine with what I have now. Undoubtedly, at some point we will get a new HDTV. But it will probably be a few years and I EXPECT them to be cheaper than they are now. I just don't need the slightly better picture for that much more money. Good luck!
