KROIL....

Haven't bought any Kroil since I found PB Blaster. It seems to creep better and not have the silicones (bad for paint jobs...). Kroil seems to be a better solvent, so if the stuck part is gunked, it beats PB. My buddy used it and some hot/cold cycles to remove a breech plug from his 1780's rifle after all othe rtechniques had failed. Took about a month but it cut thru the powder and rust to get it done. I keep some Kroil on had for such things, but day to day I use PB, easier to get and pretty cheap on sale at Murray's.

The key to all is to use time, taps, and thermal cycles. Get it warm, hit it with PB, then tap lighlty a few times. let it cool, hit it again and some more taps, then go have a cold one. Repeat for a few days.

ANd remember, sometimes it breaks off anyways.

Decades ago, when hardware stores carried Liquid Wrench and WD40, Kroil was fantastic. It was also virtually impossible to get hold of.

Today, with things like PB Blaster available at stores everywhere, Kroil has been eclipsed. It's the same penetrating oil it always was. Which is pretty good, but not in the league of PB Blaster and some of the other newer penetrating oils. And with the internet, it's far easier to get hold of Kroil if you'd like ot try it.

I've used a gun oil the name of which escapes me at the moment that I've had excellent luck with. It comes in a little can and doesn't so much spray as ooze out.

I've also had good luck with NAPA "Penetrant" that came in a little can like 3in1 oil. I don't know if they still sell it, the last can I had was almost 15 years ago.
