Hello, I have a homelite XL-15 saw that was given to me recently, looks to have seen very little use. It has no spark, Local shop can test coil for me but can"t help me with parts. I need pts and condenser for sure maybe coil too. Anybody know of a source for parts? Or a even a place to start searching? Thanks, Mike

Dear Gray,
I fixed one of those about a year ago. Had a bad coil. My local rental store "does repairs too" had a couple of junkers on the back shelf. A whole $5.oo later I had the WHOLE engine to pick clean. That coil was nice and hot and the neighbors saw still works great. I don't like taking a file to the points if you can help it. The coating on some is very thin and one or two good strokes will trash the points. I Use a sheet of good old paper shopping bag and run that through the points. The paper is a very mild abrasive and will do the trick if the points are just a little dirty. Your points should be about 20-23 ths. Look in your refridgerator for a set of plastic feeler gauges! Those plastic snap lid things with muffins or such from the super market. The middle of the lid is around 10-13 ths. The milk jug side is around 20 ths. Your gallon jug of ALL or TIDE is aroud 30 ths. Give them a try!

No spark in those saws is just about always caused by corroded/oxidized points. Usually, you just pop the flywheel off, clean/file them, and it will be fine. Bad coil is very rare. Homelite did not use any special ignition parts - they are generic - usually Wico - sometimes REPCO in the smaller saws. You can go to a NAPA dealer, look in their small-engine parts catalog - and it will list application along with photos of the points, condensors, and coils. Very easy to match up.

Check all you wires for a short, go to a local auto pars store, get a point file, file points, then try it. If no luck, try Hawking Bros. in Shelbina,MO, they have always have obsolete homolite parts when we need them

Itook mine apart , cleaned points, still no spark , found bad coil wire ,shorting to ground . new wire got her running great .
