I've been shopping pressure washers and I'm not sure what pressure/flow to get for general (light duty) car wash, engine degreasing, etc. The local pay car wash has always had ample pressure for what I do, and I was wondering if anybody has a feel for the pressure that the typical coin operated car wash puts out. I realize they vary allot, just wondering if it's closer to 2000 psi or 4000 psi. Thanks!

I used to do a lot electrical work for car washes
and most of the self serve ones that I worked on
used a 3 cylinder HOTSEY pump driven by a 5 hp
motor. The pressure usually ran about 1200 psi at
the pump. Probably not that much at the gun

The PSI is not important. What is important is hot water. All the car washes here use hot water. When one had a failure of the heater I learned first-hand that I could have stood there all day trying to wash my truck; it was useless.
