I'm wanting to buy a farm (v. small acerage) that has two Harvsetstore silos. The sellers lost many of their cattle in the early 1980's. I want to have these silos removed. I heard some people use them for water storage or for slurry. Can anyone recommend a company that might take these off my hands? I'm in Central Illinois.

in a FEW cases of these I have seen you need to give it to the interested party for free if removed. Usually thou you have to hire someone to knock it down and scrap them just to get rid of them. Small grain bins are the same way. Just no demand anymore for things like that.

A word of advice ,don't expect any response to an adv. unless you offer them for free. A friend was in the same situation a few years ago, had a highhoe come in ,knock them down ,mash them flat and haul to a junk yard.

Check around for some Amish or Menonites around there. They will buy them with cash and remove them themselves.

There are many people who still use them as silos, and many have been converted to top-unloaders. My guess is that the best thing you can do is to post an ad in your local paper or maybe Farmworld. Either list them for free or a small price, let the buyer take care of removal, and give a set deadline to take them down.

Also, it is a good idea to insist on a certificate of insurance, before you let anyone dismantle anything on your property.. Better safe than sorry...
