Other then a 12gage shotgun what is the best way to remove (Kill) squirrels that are living under my front deck. I am quite sure that they are not in the house, the house is new and is all concrete block foundation and brick front. 1. drown them out. 2. poison 3. traps 4. antifreeze.

Tested remedy- D-Con mixed in peanut butter. Gotta be careful though if there are pets in the area. Outside my shop I keep a cabinet with less than an inch of clearence under it. I can just squeeze a paint can lid under it...filled with Automobile Antifreeze. Gotta fill it every couple of weeks but it keeps the mice out of the shop..... Would work better if I had a PET SAFE spot away from the shop though... The smell DOES draw pests.....unfortunately to the area

We've had flying squirrels living in our house for 30 years. I get rid of them - by chasing them with a fish-net, catching them, throwing them outside - and they are back in ten minutes. My wife gets a little ticked though, when they come in our bedroom at night. Here are some pics of the last one right before I caught it.

They Call Me The Answer in reply to Midwest redneck, 12-16-2006 11:32:10
Board leading up to 5 gal bucket

Wire stretched across bucket with a 2 liter bottle on it( Drill Hole in cap and bottom and run wire through, attatch wire to either side of the bucket.)

Put peanut butter on 2 liter.

Fill Bucket 1/4 full with water

The squirrel will run up the board try to jump on the 2 liter to get the peanut butter, the 2 liter will spin on the wire which will dump the squirrel into the water where it will dround. Or you could pop it with a bb gun.

Works good. For larger critters such as rats use a 50 gal or 25 gal drum.

How about human hair? Can you ask your barber for some of the floor sweepings. It keeps other critters away.

Like Joe in MN said, mothballs are the best thing to us. Use to leave camper at campground for the winter and always used them under it and porch, never a problem.

It would be nice if an owl, falcon, hawk or other
bird of prey took notice and moved into the area.
You would have the added plus of viewing them in
flight.

Dig a very deep hole.
Throw in several cans of peas.
Place ashes around top of hole.
Watch, wait, and when squirrel comes to take a pea, kick 'em in the ASH hole!

.22 cal CB, very quiet in a rifle. Use in a single shot or bolt action, not enough power to cycle a semi-auto. And NO the bullet does not go a mile. Just a little more than a GOOD BB gun.

Best squirrel control I've found yet, at least on the ground.

Fox urine.

Some nurseries sell it. Put it on the cotton "darts" or if they dont have the darts just use some cotton balls.

You sure its squirrels? I never heard of them living under a deck. Skunks are bad about that.

Fox urine kept most sqirrels out of my ma's planter boxes. My bro got it from a friend who traps. She dripped some onto the clay water tray under the planter. Good luck.....don t. .....

Yep it is squirrels, they sit up on the deck and when the front door opens they (or only one not sure) scurrys under the deck. Also my front porch is concrete with a treated wood over the concrete with 2x6 joists and 5/4x6 boards running vertically down to the ground with some cubby holes when they get in out. Really the squirrels are in the ground right next to the deck. The squirrels are small.

Only if the chipmunks are bigger and are light brown in appearance. (they could be chipmunks without the stripes.)

Midwest Redneck , if they are brown squirrels , most likely they are flying squirrels. They will get into , and under structures , live in trees , as well as under ground. They are very quick. They would remind you more of a rat , than a squirrel. That is , untill you see one gliding to the ground. Although I have seen them inside structures durring the day , they are mostly out at night. After all that , I"m not sure of the best way to get rid of them.

cover up the holes, works great on woodchucks. What are they, red squirrels? Never heard of any of them living on the ground.

I have never seen squirrels live under a structure. If they are pretty small, possibly chipmonks. If larger, young woodchuck? Best thing is to eliminate access. They can be very persistent.
