Husky Saws

I going to buy a Husky saw (only good dealer in
my area) but I want a professional model not a
Loews or Home Depot type. How do you tell which
is which? Would like to do some research before
going to the dealer. Does the xp after the model
number mean pro model? Loews sells the 350, 345
and 455 so they are non-pro models? Any help is
appreciated.

Not to steal a thread, but, what are your thoughts on Echo saws? I have a Echo weedwacker that seems to do a decent job and was thinking of a 20" chain saw.

XP means professional. I did all the research and checking around last year and decided on a 346XP. It is right at the size of the ones you listed. The Rancher is popular but heavy. The 350 and 345 are good but smaller. The 346xp is just flat out bad to the bone. It dosent have the goofy air purge carb. It runs real fast and with the .325 chain it will blow thru wood amazingly fast. Used to be cutting the wood was half the work and picking it up was the other half. With a fast light powerfull saw the cutting is more like 10%. You just mash the throttle , lay it on the wood and the saw falls right thru. Limbing trees is really nice with a fast saw and safer. If you Google husky saws you will find them online and they come with 3 chains. My 10 year old doughter wanted to feed the fish in the pond one cold morning and wasn't able to break the ice. 3 pulls and no bogging and I cut her a hole and was once again glad I spent the extra on a husky XP. I don't think I would buy the plastic case they sell if mine gets stolen but I'd buy the saw again in a heartbeat. If you live at or near sea level you still need to remove the carb stop screws to richen it up but at least husky saw still have a real carb on them that you can adjust if you want. I'd say that the 350 is is a better bang for the buck than the Rancher because it is light and uses the newer style .325 chain.
