I live in Mid Michigan, with a 2200 sq ft house. I looked up my propane bills and last year it was $708, for the year. How does that compare to yours?

Are you sure that the $700 is right. I have a new house too and is 2300sq. ft and my propane for last year was over $1500. Unless you keep your house at 50F in the winter.

We do have a well insulated house, but we have a very efficent furnace, (Lennox) coupled with a programmable thermostat. The temp is programmed to go as low as 64 during the day, or after 10 at night. This rarely happens. Because we both work, there isn't anybody going in and out, letting the heat out. The reason I asked about this is because I had electric heat originally here, and it did cost me 3 - 400 per month. I supplemented with wood, but not being home during the day, I never was brave enough to leave a fire burning. I maybe cut 50 off any one month's electric bill. I replaced it with a forced air propane unit, and it has worked out pretty good. We are on a budget plan, and it is only 59 per month. And we always have a unused balance. I don't see how a wood furnace can be competitive. If I cut my propane in half, that might be 300, but I see these systems selling for 4000+. Probably never break even on one. Might break even if you counted the exercise value!

1800 sq ft 2 story 100 yr old house, no basement, no forced air, propane is a freestanding unit. Insulation is newspaper. On propane only, about 1600/yr. Propane as supplement to wood, 200-300/yr. Southern saskatchewan canada

I know people in Mi whose bills were $300-350/month last year. My geothermal system was $650 last year. You must have a really well insulated house.

Thats cheap heat. Mine was $1100 for 1750 sq feet. Still seems reasonable though, for warm heat. Its our only source and the spouse keeps it on 75.

1,700 sq ft. plus a 24x 24 garage we used 350gal of propane in twelve months,water heater, dryer, heating and cooking.(Three walls are 10in of concrete studded with 2x4 and filled with cellulose and seven ft of dirt on the outside.
