Had one of the sanding belt pulleys go bad on a Rockwell model 31-325 sander. Looking for a source for parts. Also would be interested in a parts list for this unit.

Thanks..
Bill

The 2 inch idler pulley can be replaced quickly with a 1 1/4" SCH 40 plastic pipe coupler. This will be the same diameter as the original.

The bearing on the grinder will easily press fit into the coupler center. I can supply pics and further answer questions if requested.

1 Cut 1/2" on each side of the center of the coupler. This is your pulley.

2 Save the 2 waste pieces for later.

3 Stack washers on workbench approx. 3/8" high and set your pulley over the washers.

4 Carefully press and tap bearing into coupler until setting squarely on the washers.

5 Cut 1 inch out of each scrap piece so that it will fit inside your pulley when squeezed.

6 Clean and glue the scraps on each side of bearing to keep pulley from coming off bearing while running.

7. Make sure your machine is unplugged then install your pulley on the grinder, replace sanding belt and hand turn watching for any signs of wobble. If none reinstall guards and try it out.

WOW!!! Thanks DaveAR, You saved my sanity. The tip you gave about using a schedule 40 coupler to resurface a Rockwell sander grinder was absolutely great. I have one of these magnificent little machines, and about two years ago I retired it because that same idler pulley acted more like a hand grenade and self- destructed. I haven't been able to find another, but thanks to your tip the old girl is up and running again, and probably at a fraction of the cost of ordering a replacement part, (even if you could find one) Thanks again, Doug W

Hey Bill,

John is right, Delta will be able to supply a parts diagram (exploded views with part numbers), no matter how old it is if you have a model number. They can probably supply the part you need. If not, sign up at Yahoo clubs (yahooclubs.com I think, it's free and you won't get junk email) and find a club called oldwwmachines. Post on there and you'll find the part you need. I just found an internal gear for a Delta/Milwaukee wood/metal bandsaw that I had been looking for for over nine years till I found someone there. Unbelieveable!

Tools, sounds interesting but I couldn't find them at Yahoo. Did you get the name right? Any chance for a url? The index there is a little confusing. Good group though. I belong to a Mitsubishi tractor club there.

Hey VaTom,

I went there and pasted the address into the notepad and copied it here, should work. Can't remember if I was very clear, but, as I found out the hard way, there is Yahoo clubs AND Yahoo groups, and they don't seem to link up in any way. Let me know if this doesn't work.

Thanks, Tools. You guessed right. I was in the wrong place. Clubs, groups? Oh well. Your URL, other than not being a hyperlink, worked great. I thought those were automatically highlighted.
