I have a coleman 1850 generator for my cabin. It is good except the gas cap has a sponge piece that comes off. There is really no way to re-attach the piece and gas sprays out without it. I have bought 4 replacement caps from coleman but they are expensive and don't even make it a few months. I have tried basic caps from other pieces of equipment but they all spray a little gas, even with the tank only 1/2 full. Has anyone maybe had this problem and found a cap that works? Thanks

i have the same unit with the same problem. The only thing that i can think of is get a cap from an outboard gas tank. Since the air intake is adjustable, you can set it to allow just enough air, or shut it and open it for a couple of seconds every once in a while. I have not tried this yet, but i have tried alot of other caps that claim they wont leak, and they still do.

Or maybe a cap from a dirt bike. They have a nipple for a breather hose you could run up a ways. Could you cut and shove a piece of brigs and stratton 3.5 hp air filter sponge into the cap to stop the splashing?
