Will not really matter. However the drive pulley usually is designed to PUSH air over the compressor to help keep the compressor COOL.

Actually the pulley is called the "FLYWHEEL"' HTH, John,PA

Good tip! I"m about to replace the motor on an old compressor a buddy gave me (without motor) and I was wondering how to know the motor direction. Thanks!

The drive pulley will probably have blades built into the spokes. These blades, or fan if you will, should blow air across the compressor. So determine the direction of rotation from the blade angle.

Vern is correct. Actually, the compressor would pump OK turning either direction, but would not last long if turning the wrong direction. Many of them use splash lubrication and the dipper on the connecting rod would not get oil if going in the wrong direction.
