Fuse adapters

Some of my vehicles use the glass 1" x " fuses like AGC/SFE. They are getting more costly and scarce as time goes on. Somewhere I seem to remember an adapter that will plug into the glass fuse holder and accept a newer flat type mini fuse, but I've been unable to find any at Radio Shack or the net. Anyone know where to find it?
Thanks

A few months ago, I saw fuse "storehouses" on sald at Harbor Freight for about $5 per package. I bought one with glass tube fuses, one with the larger blade fuses and another with the tiny blade fuses. They have a whole bunch of wattages in each package and a large number of fuses.

With any luck at all, I will never have to drive to town to buy vehicle fuses again. Pretty cheap and easy.

It seems to me I've seen something like that, too, but I have no idea where!

On some of my older vehicles, I have replaced some of the glass fuses with circuit breakers.

Those are readily available at auto supply stores, and completely eliminate blown fuses.

They are available in various Amp ratings, and cost $4 to $6. Here is what they look like:

Thanks for the picture. The only breakers I've seen have terminals to accept disconnect lugs or a 5 pin socket. I'm having a problem with my '76 G20 Chevy van brake lights frequently blowing the 15 amp fuse but can't find the cause. I'll try the auto supply stores.

Those shouldn't be hard to find.

If you can't find one locally, do a 'net search for "glass fuse circuit breaker".

You will appreciate the breaker, over having the fuse pop at odd times.

Does the van have a trailer plug? They can be the cause of blown taillite of brakelite fuses.

What I have done is buy the late fuse holder, cut the wire off kinda short, skin insulation a little, hold the skinned wire ends up to the old fuse holder, push old blown glass fuse into old holder catching new fuse holder wires under it. There you have it, a new fuse holder for the new fuses.

However I'll bet the guy is right about trailer connector causing trouble and if so getting new fuse holder won't be of much help.

The problem happens with out a trailer. I did install a trailer brake controller but never ran a wire to the old existing connector at the bumper. It always worked fine for trailer lights, and I haven't pulled a trailer since before this started happening. I'll take a look at the connector, maybe a wire came out of the terminal hole and is intermittently shorting to ground.
