I have a newer Craftsman garage door opener that works great when you hit the button on the wall... but as of yesterday, neither of the remotes will work. I put fresh batteries in the remotes and neither of them get any response from the GDO. Any ideas what could be wrong? Again, the GDO works fine when you use the hard-wired button.

TIA!

Ed

Check that the safety eyes can see each other ( haven't been bumped or obstructed ).

Most sears openers have the remote opener programming button on the unit itself, a small push button near the light bulbs on my units.

On the Craftsman opener that I have there is a button on the back ( away from the door ) of the opener - near where the wires from the remote wall switch attach - that you press , then press the remote and it programs itself. The directions are next to the button but you need a magnifying glass.

About 2 yrs. ago,THEY, (the military) kept advertising on our local radio station:

AD was follows: The local MILITARY reservation is activating the frequencies that the FCC reserved for them long ago. The MILITARY was recommending that the OLDER GARAGE DOOR mechanism should be changed so that the GARAGE DOOR wasn't opened thru their (the military's) training operations in the vicinity.

THEREFORE, I always make sure that my GARAGE DOOR is DOWN AND LOCKED when I leave my residence. I manually disconnect the power and lock the doors using the handle on the door.

Then I know my residence is secured.

FREE info. John,PA

The first thing I would look at in your manual is how to defuse the vacation button that perhaps was accidently hit on your wall control.
most are simple if you have the manual. Otherwise the manual will have a phone number, then the biggest problem is to try contact someone that speaks English, or non nurd.

Post back if you will please on how you fixed it.

Well, I got my wife's remote to work just by reprogramming it... but I think that my remote is toast. I checked on the wall switch and tehre i no button to disable the remotes. Just one big gray button. But, I got one of the remotes to work and that's better than I was doing yesterday!

Thanks for all the replies!

Ed

Sounds like you have an opener with "rollover" codes that are somehow out of sync with the remotes. There is a way to resync them, but you'll need to look it up in the manual.

Does your reciever have a series of dip switches to set for a specific code ? When mine refused to follow commands from the remotes,I moved all the dip switches then returned them to the original settings. That worked one time,I suspect a corroded switch contact which cleaned itself when I moved all the switches. Another time when it died and wiggling the switches failed to work,I set a new code on reciever and remotes which got it working again. apparently some component for that original code failed, and setting a new one bypassed it.

Sometimes the receiver dies. in reply to Eddie in MI, 12-09-2006 17:16:18
The radio receiver in the GDO may have taken a power surge or simply failed. If you"ve tried everything else, Sears sells a separate add-on receiver that works with the newer senders and almost any brand of GDO.

In addition to checking the disable switch, check ofr an obstruction of the safety photocell at the bottom

Eddie The same thing happened to me. I got out the book and on my wall switch there is a button to push to lock out the remotes when your gone on vacation to eliminate accidental opening. I pushed the button and everything started working again. HTH John

Who is the vendor of the (craftsman) garage door opener? There you might be able to get useful info on the same item sold under a differant name. CENTAUR

Nope. Doesn't work under the unit either. It's weird because as of two days ago, everything was working just fine. I have tried to reprogram the remotes, but to no avail. I think I'll try again tomorrow.

Keep the ideas coming!

Is your's one where you pop the cover of the wall unit or something on the opener, then hold down a button, while pressing the button on the clicker so they relearn to "play nice" with each other again?

Sometimes if the "clicker's" battery has been changed you need to do that.

Or, the radio receiver may have simply "died".

Did you try holding the remote right under the operator, because I have one that I had to add an external antena to get it to open from the outside, and still you have to be right under the antena. Funny thing is that have a GDO on a nother door in the same garage and works perfectly half way coming up the driveway without an external antena.

Hope you get this problem fixed.
