Just bought an '86 F250 XLT extended cab with a 460 engine. Other than a friend of the previous owner taping a Helicoil thread in one mounting hole in the water outlet neck and trying the same in the bolt hole in the head and breaking off the tap ( which is still there), it could be a good truck. Except that both doors have extreme play in the hinges. Do I need to replace the complete hinge or can I remove the permanent non-removeable hinge pins and replace them with aftermarket pins from the local auto supply?

I had an 86 F-150 and the drivers side door got loose. I bought a kit with new bushings and pins and it fixed the problem.

Were your pins permanent? Mine appear to be installed from the bottom and riveted on the top.

Yes my pins were permanent. I grund off the head with a small grinder and drove the old pins out. New pins came with the kit. Was pretty easy.
