Hi Guys,
I have a pressure washer that I don't really use any more. I could really use a generator. I was thinking about taking the pump off the pressure washer and putting on a generator head from northern tool. Any reason I shouldn't do this? I'm only semi-handy!! Would I have do set it up as a belt drive or will it just bolt right on? The motor is a 5 hp Honda GC 160 AQHA with a 3/4 by 2 7/16 inch crank and is tapped 5/16-24 and has a 3/16 inch keyway.
Thanks so much for your help!
Much appreciated.

One more comment; the Honda GC series engine is not considered to be industrial/commercial grade as the GX series is.

You can use one of the belt drive heads. Be sure it rotates the right direction as all are not bi-directional. Also some are 1800 rpm and some are 3600. The bare minimum for sucessful generating horese power is usually 1.25- 1.50 hp per kilowatt of output. The Honda engines have a good governor system, but you probably will need to add some more parts to it to make it sensitive enough to keep the cycles per second from varying when under load or free. most generators have an adjusting nut for setting the speed under load and a secondary spring to keep the governor speed stable and not let it surge. I have a home built system that uses a 2 cylinder Onan engine from a tire service truck, coupled to an 8Kw dayton belt drive head and I use a 2:1 0verdrive ratio to allow my engine to run slower (appros 1800 rpm)which produces less noise less vibration uses less gasoline and prolongs engine life. I am going to replace the Onan with a B/S 18 hp vanguard v-twin engine and convert it to a low pressure lp--natural gas for the relief of carburetor gumming up, and the fact that lp gas doesn't go bad like gasoline does. I also have a connection that I can hook in to the natural gas linw when the power outage would be prolonged and gasoline might be scarce and would not have to shut down and fuel up so often. Also do not have to pay motor fuel tax on the lp gas which is 10-15 cents per gallon that helps with the price.

I don"t know.....

Will it have a good enough govenor to keep a steady output?

5hp will be a pretty small output, probably not 220v.....

Not sure but I think alot of generators use a special crans with a taper on them to mate to the gnerator.
