Anyone out there ever repair a timing gun.?
I have my fathers old PENSKE, very heavy duty, and don't want to part with it. Bulb still works, just very weak. I even took the manification lens off end and still couldn't see light on anything.
It is the "U" shaped -neon- looking curved bulb--maybe some knows of a parts place, that would help me out=as I am a good fixer-upper kind of guy. Many Thanks, Mark

Have I got a deal for you. 2 or maby 3 spare pensky/craftsman timing lights. All 70's vintage. The catch is that I only have one wire set that fits them all-the plug in the but of the handle type. Now I keep the wire set and 1 light and send the rest to you if in you think they are the same. Only expense-Merry Christmas

DANGER!!!

There is an oscillator/transformer/rectifier setup in there that converts battery voltage to something like 300 to 600 VDC, to supply the flashtube. DON'T stick your fingers in there, unless you are familiar with such circuits, and know how to be sure the capacitor is discharged.

Since it IS flashing, I would suspect a weak tube, or POSSIBLY a weak high-voltage capacitor.

I used to mess with xenon flash stuff.

I can't direct you to a supplier I have knowledge of, as it's been a LONG time since I've worked with this stuff.

If you go to GOOGLE, and search for "Xenon Flash Tubes", you'll get lot's of "hits" of hobbiest and supplier sites, hopefully some you can use for help, information, and parts.

Yep thatr is pretty weak if you cant see the light.

Might even call it dead :)
It could be several things. The strobe tube shot, the HV source defective, Trigger coil bad, etc....
Someone that understands electronics will have to spend hands on time with the light to troubleshoot it I think.
