PROPERTY TAX OUT OF SIGHT

I vote NO on anything that I think might raise my taxes, and I will vote for someone else for Assessor next time.

And they say there's no inflation!

Very good plan, so when ballot choices come up to give property tax breaks to certain non profits such as the Lions or Elks, or widows of slain police officers, do you vote for them thinking, "this is great, at least someone will get a property tax break" or do you reason it out and vote no on the basis that your state legislators voted for it to buy everyones vote with tax money (the local county's) that really wasn't the legislatures to give away, and that if someone else gets a break, you will have to make up the loss?

The taxes are getting out of hand! What else can the average citizen do about them besides vote? And vote out politicians that raise taxes.

He also has a 1/2 acre lot inland from Naples FL that his father bought in the '60's. The value on this vacant lot on a still vacant street in the still vacant section of Lehigh Acres is $50,000 this year, was $20,000 last year, was $8,000 before that, and $4,800 the year before, and was $2,000 for many years before that. The millage went up also, you can imagine what happened to the taxes. He asked me to look into it (I'm a tax assessor in GA) and I told him the only consolation was that the lots were actually selling for nearly this much, developers were buying them up left and right.

Here in the PA area, insurance coverage is about $265.00 per yr. However, the property tax is about $1,000.00 per yr.

Seems like, if the taxes don't get ya, the insurance companies will, sooner or later.

I was hopeing to sell my PA property next year and relocate to FL, but, now I am not sure if I can afford to.

Who is your Florida insurance company? You might not be able to keep them from knocking you down and stealing the money out of your wallet, but you don't have to protect their identity while they do it.

Remember when Ma Bell was one company and Lily Tomlin used to do that bit about them? "We're the phone company. We don't care, and we don't have to." Seems like most national businesses feel that way now.

Since last year's hurricane cost the companies lots of $$$$, they have raised the rates out of sight.

I am hearing that quite a few neighbors have been priced out and have sold their homes and moved to ALABAMA and TENNESSEE.

I have searched a few "independent" agents in the Pensacola, FL area and they have all said the same thing. "Most companies are not writing new policies, and, those that have insurance should stay with the companies that they are with."

So, I will be makeing a decision in the near future to keep my PA property for sure.

I'm not too glad to find out that it's State Farm because that's who all my insurance is with. It's not even really homeowner's insurance any more---it's homeowner's catastrophic insurance. You don't dare file a claim on anything less than so much damage that you simply can't afford to pay for the repairs out of your own pocket. I wonder if the insurance companies keep track of any damage to your house they find out about and hold it against you even if you don't file a claim. That's the way they've always treated your auto insurance policy. Any damage to your car, even if it's parked on the street in the middle of the night and you're asleep in your bed, can suggest that you're a high risk policyholder and might influence your rates or even your renewability. What a world, huh?

Our Governor says that all Texans recieved a cut in property taxes this year but I have yet to find anyone that got a cut.

Every year the evaluation or the rate goes up.
