Rodac 3/8 air rachet

Where can I buy repair part for RODAC Air Tools?I contacted a local tool repair bussiness who claimed SNAP-ON took over RODAC and they were the only place I could buy repair parts. I talk to the local SNAP-OAN TOOL truck saleman who said he knew nothing of this. He also called SNAP-ON's tool repair division who also Knew nothing of this. I have a 3/8 air Ratchet that has lost the sping losded ball which hgolds the socket on. I need a replacment.

Go to your box of assorted ball bearings and select one that will work in the ratchet.

I wasn't aware that the spring was lost. Find a junked old manual typwriter or something similar. They have lots of small springs and other useable hardware. What is used to hold the spring and ball in place? If it's like a ratchet ball, it's difficult to get the metal peened over the ball. If it's a clip of some sort your're ok. If you can tell me what size spring you need, I'll look in my spring box to see if there's a match. If I do, it's yours. I need to know a close guess of OD, compressed length, free length, wire diameter, and #of coils. Use a mike or dial caliper if you have one. Whenever I find something with ball bearings that's not the least bit useable, I remove the balls or whole bearing if it's good. Same with springs and other stuff.

There is a device that in theory would work, but may not be practical because the part the ball is in is probably heat treated. It's a set screw with a spring loaded ball protruding from the end. You drill and tap for the size thread required and install it with a flat blade screwdriver. It can be driven from either end. I used one to hold a vice handle from droping down and pinching skin. The screw is adjustable for force so the handle won't move by itself. The screw was about 1/4" too long and was covered with a cap nut. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the thing.

I have not look into replacing the sping and ball that far. What I was most likly going to do was take a broken import ratchet, machine down the side oppsite the ball and retieve the ball and spring. The next problem would be peening the ball and spring into the Rodac part.
