Another "OH-JoY item". Windows has a new internet explorer up date. It really changes your page when you surf. Guess I will get used to it. Just watch out if it tries to load on your computer and you don't like change. Tell it to cancel. As I said, It is a big change! Jeffcat

What I don't like about IE 7 is it adds another bar of symbols, taking up more room on the screen. The only good thing that's apparent is the zoom level control in the lower right corner. I think that before long IE 6.x will be obsolete, so there's not much one can do but accept it. So maybe I'll try Firefox.

I have used both IE and Firefox browsers since '99. I use Firefox 99% of the time as it is faster and much more secure than IE. There is a test you can go to to see how fast your internet service is. I compare IE and Firefox at least once a week, and Firefox is consistently 100 - 200 k faster download speed than IE. You can go to the link below and check your internet speed out for your self and then compare both browsers if you want. You guys with dial up might not want to monkey with it as it takes time to download the image. But, Firefox might be able to speed up things for users with dial-up. First when you get into the site, click on INTERNET SPEED TEST
then on the left side click on SHUTTLE+TEXT
then on the right side click on NIBBLE INFO SYSTEMS
then click on RUN TEST at the bottom
then just wait, a page will open with your results with a graph and will have your results highlighted with something like THIS IS YOUR THROUGHPUT or something like that.

If you are interested in Firfox just do a search for Firefox 2.0, and the best part is that Firefox is free as is IE.

IE7 worked fine for me. It did take some time to get it configured to my liking.

I just got the new IE7 at work yesterday and spent the rest of the AM trying to figure out why all the applications I run from off the network started telling me "Publisher could not be verified" and wanting me to confirm I wanted to run the app. This was happening after IE7 was loaded but even if IE7 was not running. I found the answer if anyone needs it let me know--I don't have time to post it now. I also spent some time with the new Clear Type stuff. I have mixed feelings on it.

I use Firefox for everything I can but a few sites only seem to work with IE--only a few of those are worth using IE to see. :)

I run Mozilla Firefox on everything I can, but have a printer compatabilty issue with it. Have to run Explorer when I need to print something. Not very fond of the new 7.0 Explorer, I exit and go back to Mozilla as soon as I am done printing. I am on DSL, so not a big hassle to do this. I do understand that Mozilla is much less likely to be hacked thru, although Explorer claims the new update makes it more secure. Not so sure about that.

The update is part of the new OS called Vista. The trick is to get a improved internet explore that will work with Vista and the older systems as well. It appears they still have a ways to go.

Mozilla all the way. All automatic updates shut off here. I don't want others changing my computer when I am not looking. I do my Norton update myself every week.

Boo hiss to internet explorer. Firefox(Mozzilla) is far superior in my humble opinion. It's not intrusive and is safer.

I did it and i hate it. Now i have to get my son, the computer expert to uninstall it. If it aint broke dont fix it i say. Im sure sorry i downloaded it. I thought it was a necessary fix as i understood the message. Oh well, live and learn.

I downloaded 7 and like it but it changed my wallpaper and desktop and someof it cant seem to be fixed Dell has been trying for 2 weeks.

its the new version 7, has been about for a few weeks now. Microsoft made it a critical update a week or so ago.

You can refuse the update, and disable it so it doesn't come back, but if its too late, it is possible to un-install and go back to version 6 if you want also.

I have 7 (got it as soon as it was off beta), no big problems with it. took a day or 2 to configure things to my liking, but I kind of like the tabbed browsing feature it offers.
