I have a small Campbell Hausfield air compressor....it is in the house garage and is seldom used....(sat all winter)...this spring I pluged it in to use it (220v) and it would not start ...not a sound...I bumped it by hand to get it in a different spot, nothing..... any ideas.....thanks Don

This may be a stupid question, but did you check power to it? Don't ask why I thought of that. :-(

Check/clean the points in the preassure switch. I'll almost bet dirt dobbers have gotten into the switch and dirted it open on you

First I would make sure you"re getting power to the motor. Then I would check the start capacitor. Usually motors that are used for compressors have a capacitor for starting. They are usually located on top of the motor, under a cover. Remove the cover and unplug the wires going to the capacitor. Being careful not get shocked since the capacitor can shock when they are charged. You can then take it to someone who can test it to see if the capacitor is good or bad. This can be a simple and cheap fix for an electric motor.
Good luck..

A motor will hum if the capacitor is open.Smoke will result if it left on long enough.

do you have dirt daubers there? might have it locked up with their nest. Have you checked the plug and made sure voltage is there? You never know, breaker may not be on.

It might be the capacitor, they do go bad once in awhile.Or it could be the switch also.

Little hard to trouble shoot over the net.Just need to track the voltage down and see where it quits.
