Looking for some help on choosing lights for my shop. From reading this board is sounds like metal haloid (sp?) would be the rite one. My problem is that I only have 8ft high ceilings so I cannot have anything hangging down too far. I am starting to lean to a recessed florescent (sp?) lamps. If anybody has any great ideas let me know.

Thanks All

and thanks to the board.

Flouresnce lights will work but if your shop will be cold some of the year they will not come on. You will have to invest in cold start models period.

Seems like the trend is back to flourescent lights. Had an electrician tell me the other day that in 2 years time, he has went from having everyone who builds a larger building wanting metal halloids to almost nobody. He says the best bang for the buck right now is 8 foot fixtures with 4-4 foot bulbs. 4 foot bulbs are about 1/4 the price of 8 footers

That's what I've been thinking. I haven't wired them up yet. So I am planning on splitting the system in half. Also I am in No. California so I don't want the Power Police knockin on my door...
Thanks

I have floresent lights in my basement/shop. I have a switch at the door that turns on the lighting and the radio. Each light fixture has a pull chain switch so I can customize the lighting for the job I happen to be doing at the time. But when I want to leave it is only one switch and it kills all the lights and radio. Just have to remember the air compressor which I usually try to have off if I am not going to be around for long. The pull switches don't get in the way, they are cut so I can just reach them with out having to stretch so they clear things that are being moved around. Have had this system for a good 15 yrs. now and wouldn't change it.
