My stepfather has an 04 F250 diesel. last night he barely made it home. Truck stalled, he got it started, but had to manualls shift thru the (automatic ) gears to get it up to speed without it dieing out.. said it had -NO- power.

He checked the fuel filters for water.. none. Filters are pretty new also. Truck did have plenty of fuel in the tank. Previously, the truck has been in and had a new computer installed.. say.. mid last year or so.

Any ideas? Injection pump / gov?

Best site I have found for Ford Diesel trucks is the "Powerstroke Only" or (not sure of the name) the "Ford 6.0" discussion boards at

www.freeautoadvice.com

I had similar problems with my 2001 (7.3L) when is was essentially brand new.

It was the CPS.

I have an '04 F250 diesel that was having a power problem, but it only occurred pulling a load up hill. Mine was a dirty EGR valve. A friend had a problem with his '03 with very little power. His was bad injectors. Injectors were a problem on '03s and maybe early '04s. But I think they solved that problem.

I work for 2 ambulance services and they both have E350 or F350. They have the 6.0 in them. We have been told several things by the dealers. One said the fuel was to thick sounds like they don't know to me. At about 40,000 miles is when the trouble statred on them. They have replaced the injectors twice on one of them. Makes it better for awhile then back to being sick. All I know is if I ever buy a Ford diesel it will be a used 7.3 just my opinion tim

Does it make lots of gray smoke? We have an 05 E350 van at work with the 6.0 powerstroke and twice it has left us high and dry due to wire harness chaffeing that caused the EGR valve to stay wide open (max exhaust recirculation) and it was gagging on it's own exhaust.

souNdguy,
No injection pump on the 6.0L It does sound like an ICP sensor. Ford changed mine twice before I unloaded it and bought a gasser.

Not familiar with an ICP sensor... or a diesel with no injection pump...

7.3's and MAYBE the 6.0's do all kinds of weird stuff when the crankshaft position sensor fails.

Hmm.. CPS.. I hadn't thought of that. Im pretty sure he has a scanner tool for that truck. I may have to run over and check that after lunch. thanks for the idea!

that is a "camshaft" position sensor, not crankshaft, but basically does the same job. and when these go bad they cause the truck to not start, or to die out. If you have low power I would look elsewhere.
