I would recommend a Fujifilm 2400Z. I din quite a bit of professional photography years ago and used Nikon, Minolta, Cannon and Hasselblad. I went looking for a GOOD yet inexpensive digital. After looking at all on the market the 2400 stood out. 2.1 megapixel, equivilent to a 11 X 14 print. Great pictures. 3X optical zoom as well as 2X digital zoom, macro for close ups. Built in lens cover etc. Bought for $306.00 Would recommend a battery charger and AC adapter, not inc. Best camera for the money. Particularly when you look at the quality of the output compared with a 1.5 mp camera.

I've had a Kodak DC-210+ for 2 years and am delighted with it. Has all the features I need, and nothing I don't. The 1 megapixel resolution is the right blend of resolution vs file size (makes nice 8 x 10 prints, but doesn't fill up memory cards and my hard drive too fast). It's also very economical on batteries - generally 200 - 300 images per set of AA's depending on flash use.

Kodak replaced DC-210+ with the DC-215 shortly after I bought mine - a few more features and lower price. If I were to buy another camera, that's probably what I'd get.

For loads of digicam data, user reviews, comparisons, etc. see Steve's Digicams: www.steves-digicams.com

For sample images (most of them tractor-related), look in my Photopoint album - all were taken with the DC-210+.

Haven't they replaced that now with the 3200? :)

I think you're right...but a many stores still have the DC-215 for sale, and the prices are attractive!

I have a sony also and bought it for a number of reasons. First, because I didn't have to buy film it didn't take long for it to pay for itself. I also have a ton of film (1.44 diskettes) since I changed to a zip drive.
If you don't like a picture you just delete it. I don't have to pay for a picture I don't want. If I want to print the picture its a simple process.
My sony movie camera uses the same battery therefore its like having a spare. Maybe I lucked out but, I bought mine new on ebay and saved about $130.

Its a great camera I take pictures all the time now. I hope this helps.

I provide technology support for a small school system. Part of that is specifying hardware and purchasing.

I've been very happy with cameras from AGFA, Olympus and Kodak, in that order. You can spend anywhere from $150 to $1500. The best bang for the buck falls in the $350 to $450 range. Look for a 2 Megapixel camera with optical zoom. I prefer to get a kit that includes Lithium (LiMH) batteries and a recharger.

Where you get it is primarily driven by price, as the manufacturer is going to provide the support in any case. I use Pricewatch to surf for the best prices. See the link.

I got a charger, 6 AA batteries, & 4 AAA batteries (LiMH) at Sam's Club for $18. Sure beats the $60 kit that Kodak sells for my camera. I like your specifics for a camera. :)

Good idea, you will love a digital camera. They are great to take to tractor auctions, shows, or sale lots. I got a lot of Hyd. hook ups, snow plow and 3ph conversion ideas and took pictures by the dozens to help me remember what I saw. I started out with a Olympus 220l. I dropped it on the floor and the repair estimate was over 50% of the purchase price. I bought a Fuji 2400 2.1 mg. pixel for $327 over the net. May I suggest using these net sits for reviews.

They review cameras and also help you learn what the heck they are talking about.
I would also suggest using the net to make your purchase. A lot of sits beat Sams club by $100 plus Sams club carries a lot of models that are out of production. Stay away from eBay - the prices for popular currant production models were pretty high.
