Lathe chuck jaws

I have an old craftsman lathe that Sears no longer stocks parts for. I have lost one of the inside chuck jaws. The chuck is a 3jaw 5" diameter and is scrolled manually with a T handle. I cant find any manufacturer name on the chuck.

Is there anywhere I might find a replacement set of inside jaws?

Get a new or good condition used chuck with both sets of jaws. As has been said, you'll have to buy a set and good luck getting the to match the pitch of your scroll, much less getting the timing right. Probably cheaper to get another chuck rather than buy new jaws anyway.

You'll wish a set, not just the one jaw, and then you may have to grind them to get the work close to center. A three jaw chuck has the properties of almost centering, but rarely does it precisely. Changing the jaws won't help that centering. Particular machinists use a dial indicator and a 4 jaw independent jaw chuck and can make the work run perfectly true, not with a few thousandths wobble.

Do a search on Grizzly supply, They sell lathes and machine shop/wood production shop stuff. P.S. seems strange seeing this post after using my "1940's style CRAFTSMAN lathe yesterday to make a crankshaft pully spacer on a 347 mustang engine that I'm building with my son. Been almost exactly a year sinced I used it.
Has the Babitt bearings but still works nice. They had a three jaw chuck for my "1950's" Walker Turner lathe.(woodturning) I also have a early "1900's" F.E. Reed 50" converted X-lineshaft driven(woodturning)made right here in Worcester Ma.

There's always Sears/Atlas lathe parts on ebay. Shouldn't have to watch for too long to find a chuck.

Atlas is now Clausing. They MAY have parts, it won't hurt to check... it's a free call.

Or, get a new chuck from Enco. You may be able to order it with a ready-machined mounting plate, or you may have to get a blank one, and thread it yourself.

Mine izz so old I think it made the parts fer the mayflower. Enny ways I had to have a machine shop git me a 3 jaw chuck and he made the part that screws to the lay arbor to adapt to the new chuck. I spec he got a small 3 jaw chuck new and adapted it. You do not won�t to know the cost. Hopefully yours izz a later model and the chuck kin be had. Mine izz also a craftsman but it wuz made by atlas. The arbor in mine runs in bush�ins not bearings like the later ones did. I have the original manual fer it and the atlas manual for the later type.

Try looking for South Bend or Atlas. I think one or both made lathes for Sears then...If it's a three jaw , you will need the correct numbered jaw, or you will have to have it "ground in"...
