I am assuming a John Deere R ... They had a small gasoline starting engine, because the diesel motor (the one that moves the tractor) is so big. So in order to start it, you must start the gas motor first, then pull the lever and engage the diesel motor. Once the diesel motor is running, turn off the gas motor. A three point thingy is in the very back of the tractor. I dont think it matters cause I dont think an R JD had a 3 point. Thats all I know ....AC ...JD guys?

Since you know nothing about tractors it might be better for you to take it to a consigment auction for antique tractors. An R is very collectable and at a consignment sale you would probably have several bidders interested in the tractors competing to buy the tractor.
