Skidloader Hydraulics

I just purchased a 1975 Mustang 1200 skid steer and it says to use A type Automatic transmission fluid in the hydraulics. I have a early forty"s Hough payloader I use a genaric hydraulic fliud in. Anypne know if I can use it in the Mustang. I would rather keep them the same.

I have a new holland l445 skid steer.... and just had a chain replaced and a lift boom cyl resealed.... the new holland dealer put "whatever" hydrolic fluid in... and now it had a shreaking sound when operariting the bucket and boom... and they run really slow and have less power.... the manual say to use dextron.....

could the "whatever" hydro be the problem?

the dealer says the filter probably needs replacing, but it was repalced a few months ago ( 8 hr's op time )

watcha think?

also... the new fluid feels really thin on the dip stick.... more like water than oil.

but.... the drive hydrosatats seem to work ok...?

Most skid steers, not all, have seperate compartments for hyd. and chain case. Oil in chain case isn't a big deal. Hyd. is. I'd go back to the dealer and have all the hyd. fluid changed for the proper spec. fluid. Especially if it worked fine before. Hyd. repairs don't come cheap. Dave

Stick with the Dexron. We are running Dexron/Mercon in the one I repair and service. There is a spec for a non-flammable fluid that nobody can afford. The chain cases can run the regular hyd oil though.

I have to agree with 135, they are differant and if it has had the tranny fluid in it you better stay with the tranny fluid because the 2 will not mix well

I would stick with what the OEM says. They are different oils. Dave
