A local welding supply place has a used Millermatic 35s for sale for $550. They have tested it and say it welds well (and I trust them). Does this price seem reasonable? Any opinions about this machine? I forgot to ask them what range of thickness it would weld. I did ask about aluminum and the anser was yes- but its a pain to set up for, which is why the invented spool guns.

MM-35 is a good machine, there are plenty of them working for 20 years in body shops, and that's about the worst environment for a MIG. The biggest drawback is having to replug for different heat range, unlike the 225 that has a switch. Properly set up, you should be able to do 3/16 plate. It will go low enough to weld a bandaid can.
For good results with flux cored, you need to use a different chimney on the gun for best results. As far as aluminum goes, spool gun is the best way, unless you can afford a Cobramatic. I can't tell you about the price, but I'd suggest you find out the dealer's policy on test driving the machine.

Not sure of the range on the 35, but I am looking myself and just found this site, www.mig-welders.com a new 130 XP sells for 545.00. Locally they are asking 760.00 but that includes a bottle I own, 55 LBS of gas. Plus they are a certified repair shop. Big diffence though. Bob
