Any one here ever read the OLD "Compressed Air" magazine? About 6 years ago they "improved and updated" their format. The last time I saw one there was no point in reading it, now - unless you're hunting for the latest managment BS. The OLD format was one of the most interesting magazines I've ever seen, though! For *over* a hundred years it had articles on ANYTHING that used compressed air - from making gloves for astronauts to diamond cutting to growing bananas to building Stienway grand pianos - and anything else you could think of! If you ever run across any of them in a yard sale, grab them! They were free - sent out as a trade magazine by Ingersoll-Rand. If anyone has any they want get rid of I'd be GLAD to give them a good home!

Hi Bud -

I'm really glad to hear about these... I love old "how things work" magazines & articles.

I'm signed up on their website, too, now...

A while back I went to an old foundry auction up at Trinidad, CO. I got a box of magazines that were about foundries and metal casting. All the ones I got were from back in the 60's or so.

They are fascinating - advertisements for metal sorters, furnaces, gang drills, etc...

I'd love to find a website that has them online, but haven't, yet...

Howard

I agree with you 100%. That was the best magazine I recieved, and at that time I was suscribing to or getting free nearly 20 of them. The new regime decided to "improve" things, kind of like the New Coke. I have a bunch of the original Compressed Air, but am not yet willing to part with them.

I've seen a few of those magazines over the years, they were interesting. Then the Ingersoll rand air tool division plant is only 3 miles from here. This plant isn't even a shadow of it's former self. As for management BS, that's about right. Most all IR tools are made in China now (what isn't?). I've heard of lines being shut down for a couple days at a time up there because the parts for their 'made in USA' products were waiting on parts from China. Time was, locally you could take one of these tools apart and point at a part and know who made the part.
