Anyone have a corn boiler? Are you happy with it? Looking into one for a radiant floor heating system in my shop.

I'm a Heating & Cooling Contractor, have been for the past 17 yrs. I handle a line of corn fired boilers. If you would like some info , I would be glad to send it to you.

Corn fired boilers are a good source of heat, captured sunlight, just like coal.
Couple of things to keep in mind.
The burning pot needs to have a mechanical stirater, otherwise the corn will form clinkers just like coal burners.
The tempature of water that runns into the floor should not be more than 120 deg.
There are a few great web siteds that show plumbing schematics along with good ideas, I don't have them saved, but I know they are outthere. its worth the time to find them.

There are a lot of corn stove and furnaces being made but not as many boilers. I read somewhere that they are prone to cokeing or somthing like that. I think Penn State was working on them. I too have my ear to the ground regarding boilers that will burn any grain.

I heat my shop with coal. Same principle, except I'm not burning FOOD.

I wonder how long some of the flimsy-built corn burners that have been quickly rushed to market will last?

The coal stoker I have has heated a 3750 square foot shop with 14' sidewalls, in northern ND, for 22 years, with minimal repairs.

now theres an idea, have someone figure out how to make these things heat our shops and supply us with spirits as well. That way we can get warmed up twice for the same money and when the feds come calling you can say its a heater.
