First the elms now the ashes...Does anybody know if there's a spray to keep these pesky little critters at bay for a while..I've got 2 beautiful ashes planted 12 feet apart...Just right for my hammock..In my older failing years , I'd hoped to be able to stretch a hammock between these trees, sipping a cold brewski...

I believe the last time I read about the soak treatment they said it was about $22.00 per tree. Which is not bad if you only want to save your decorative tree in the yard.

NO true treatment other than a chain saw and chipper. The life cycle of the lovely bug is mostly just under the bark of the ash tree. At this time only found in ash. It and the asain longhorned beetle are gifts of China. The Toronto area had a massive clear cut due to the Asain longhorned. Stop planting ash is the word.

We have that bug here now as well. The Federal government in it infinite wisdom decided they needed to make a fire break of sorts. An aproximately 6 wide X 18 mile long slash was cut from Lake Erie to Lake St.Clair. Every ash tree with in the boundary was cut down and either burned or carried away and chipped. What a mess to fields and wood lots. The inspecters from the goverment and the people they hired to cut the trees came on to your property as they pleased with out so much as a notice.

We are in the heart of emerald ash borer country in lower Michigan. THey have cleaned everything out. The only thing I have heard around here that works is a product by Bayer that you mix with water and put around the base of the tree a couple of times a year. You have to get it before the borer hits, though. You can get the stuff at Home Depot, Lowes or Menards.

I have heard of tree services that claim to have successfully treated infected ash trees. I don't know what they use, but I do know the treatment is incredibly expensive.
