Hi Folks. I'm looking to get a hanging furnace-45000 b.t.u. for the garage and I'm wondering about noise. My Brother-in-law has a Dayton and it's noisy from day 1. Its the induced draft fan that is so noisy. I'm wondering which would be quieter-the Beacon/Morris from Menard's, or the Mr. Heat Big Maxx from Thiesen's. Have any of you fellas used either one? Thanks, Chris(IA)

I don't know if it an option for you (how big they make them) but I put in a wall mounted radiant unit last fall and I love it. No moving parts to make noise either.

Trouble with those is they aren't vented and then you get alot of moisture to rust up tools.

You should see all the water that comes out of my heater vent pipe !

I have a Mr. Heater big maxx. I don't think it is that noisy, and it seems to work ok. I think this is my 3rd year. I test fired it up the other day and it wouldn't start up. Luckly it ended up being some junk ? in the little hole that has a pressure tube at the vent blower. This goes up to a safty switch. I poked around in the hole with a wire and then it worked.

I put in a Modine "Hot Dawg" last fall and have been very happy with it.They all seem to be somewhat noisy(nature of the beast)but I hardly hear it now..kinda a matter of getting used to it.

I like the Hot Dawg heaters also, have one in our greenhouse. Not real noisy, at least our long haired cat can sleep on top of the cabinet all winter.
Heater has been absolutely trouble free, no pilot light to give trouble. Love it.

I installed a Mr. Heater Big MAXX. It's not too bad. At first it was realy noisy. I found the fan was bent and cracked. The fan is very flimsy aluminum. The first replacement was badly bent in shipping. The second was also bent but not so bad and I straightened it.
Mine is mounted to the overhead floor joist. Any vibration is amplified through the joist. If I get around to it someday, I may try to schock mount the entire unit.

Thanks for the information. I"ll mount it in some rubber to begin with. Easier now than later.
