A guy wants to sell me this binks unit, it can run 220 or 110, the guy claims its 1 1/2 hp he wants 150.00 for it.

I'd like a bigger compressor (have a small craftsman now)

what do you guys think?

I got a Devilbliss for a hundred bucks from a freinds fathers sign shop.Itr was a little slow to make pressure and kinda worn. You need a way to try to test it out or know what he is using it for.I remember a lot a standing waiting for more pressure with my Devilbliss when trying to sandblast.

It's a rebadged Quincy, which is the best you can get, as long as it's in good shape. Look at the model tag on it, on the crankcase inspection cover. Looks like it's just a bit smaller than a 325. It's a 2 stage, since it has an intercooler on it, which is good. Parts should be readily available.

Binks makes some good industrial air equipment. I'd say from the picture that the tank should be checked for leaks. Use some soapy water in a spray bottle and soak all the seams watching for bubbles. Of course this is with a full tank. Let the pump run first to make sure it fills and shuts off OK. If it passes the leak test drain the tank and see what comes out. If there's lots of water it means the owner hasn't taken real good care of the unit.
The tank test is important because a new tank is expensive and used tanks like the one shown are getting hard to find. I know this because old compressors are my hobby. I've assembled many using second hand tanks. Newer tanks are cheaper made and require revamping to mount a platform for a separate pump and motor set-up. A very small leak maybe acceptable but count on it getting worse plus the chance that the leaking area may decide to let go all at once causing some serious damage.

Lastly try to buy it as cheap as you can. No harm in that plus it makes up for some of the cost to repair any problems that wait until you get it home to show up.

Probly not a bad unit, I wouldnt expect to do anything serious with that, such as sandblasting or sanders, but as for impact guns/ nailers / air rachet/ painting, it would probly be alright.
