Weedeater given to me so no manuel. Bought Homelite oil - said correct ratio for all homelite weedeaters. New gas. Runs at about half speed. What can I do? Also shuts off easily.

Had about the same problem with a stihl weedeater I had. Did the carb. job. New plug. Still had the same problem. Removed the muffler and found that a spark arrestor screen was totally plugged with carbon and oil. Probably because the weeder had not been run hard enough? Anyway soaked the screen in gumout, re-installed and it ran perfectly. Probably a no-no, but next time it happens, the screen will be left out..

Check the exhaust for obstructions like carbon or dirt dobber nests. Might be partially obstructed. A common problem around my place. I have to store my weedeater with a garbage bag over the engine or the dobbers will plug it up between mowings. I think I'm in the dirt dobber capitol of the universe. . . Anybody ever try a jar lid filled with antifreeze and attached to the rafters? I've heard it will kill them, but you can also kill the critters that you're fond of.

1. If string is too long (more than about 6" or so) it will slow the trimmer down.

2. Make sure drive shaft is rotating freely and properly lubed.

3. Make sure spark plug isn't fouled.

4. Carb may need to be adjusted

5. Throttle cable may need to be adjusted.

Hope this isn't so simple a suggestion that it offends anyone, but when troubleshooting you've got to start with the obvious. Make sure the choke is off, 2 cycle motors (and lots of 4 cycle ones too) run about 1/2 speed with it on.
