OT Towel Warmer

Anybody have any experience with electric towel warmers? Saw one in a magazine and thought the wife might like one since she is always heating her bath towels up in the dryer.

Bathroom is on the chilly side due to price of heating oil and wood stove does not heat this area well.

I have 2. One is a floor mounted rack type by a reputable Irish company and the other is a asian brand shelf heater. Neither heats towels worth a durn. There is just not enough contact with the towels to get them good and warm.

Spend your money on a space heater. It will get you a lot more points with the wife.

At first I thought you could kill two birds with one stone. That is to add some heat to the room with the additional heat from the towel warmer. I looked at a few of the bigger ones and they only draw 90 watts. I guess you could leave it on all winter. You gave me an idea. An electrically heated bath rug. Made in China. Yikes!

Like you I run my house at a cooler temp. than most folks would like and I use an electric heater to take off the chill in the bathroom. It would neither take up more room or consume more power than the towel warmer. You just need to turn it on a few minutes before bathtime.

A few years ago a friend of mine built a new house and he had an heat lamp fixture in the bath. Dont know what they cost, but I saw one at home depot a while back. (I dont have one or intend on getting one)

Hi Chuck,

Have you considered installing a LP heater in the bathroom? One of those thru the wall types so it just heats the bathroom when needed, then can be shut off 90% of the time. About $500 the last time I checked into them. They would use very little LP as being used as a spot heater.

By code, a bathroom can only have negitive air ventalation because of methane gas. A dedicated room heater met this part of the code.

I would think the towles would have to be pre-heated for a couple hours before they would feel any where near like the towles that just came out of a cloths dryer. It would be difficult to reproduce that warming effect that the cloths dryer gives and I really don't think she would be happy. I might try one one on a 30-day money back buying with my Visa card.

The bathroom is smack in the middle of the house. Asked a plumber about installing one and he recommended against it due to small size and location. Was going to put in electric radiant floor heat but a developer has been talking about buying the place to build apartments since March didn't want to waste the money. Looks like we will be staying through winter and was trying to make wife happy. Appreciate the reply.

get her a ceramic heater with a blower and thermostat on it, work better and you wont have a towel warmer laying around collecting dust
