OT: Father in-Law died this morning.

At 9:00 AM EST 10-14-06 my FIL checked out. The saline IV was pulled out at 10:00 AM on 10-13. My wife and I have our wedding anniversery today 10-14-95, not a happy day now. My FIL went in peace, in a coma. Wife and I and MIL went and made funeral arrangements today.....it is expensive to die. Total funeral costs, church service, cemetary plot, digging the grave, concrete box and flowers is going to be about $12K. The casket was $2,700 (one of the cheaper wood ones) Its weird that you pay so much for a piece of furniture that goes in the ground. One nice final note though my wifes granddad who is still alive at 87 years old gave my Mother inlaw my FILs part of his inheritance.....$40,000. that will make it easier for my MIL. Thanks for all the support from you guys.

You now know what my mother, a 30yr hospital supervisor with about 20 of that as an SICU RN/ manager, taught me long ago. There are things much worse than dying in this life. You and your family can now have comfort in knowing the pain and struggling are over. May your father-in-law rest in peace.

Sorry to hear the news, but I know it was inevitable. Sometimes in the last days we find ourselves waiting for a miracle, but for your father in law he was waiting to be released from his pain and burden, and for that you can be thankful. Celebrate his life and never forget him, and do what you can to preserve his memory, his traditions and his legacy. Tell kids in the family about him, what he liked, how he did things. Other than providing for his loved ones my belief is that the one thing a man fears when facing death is being forgotten. My heart goes out to you and yours in your time of sorrow.

Our condolances and prayers are with you and your wife"s family. I think that I would go crazy if I didn"t believe that there is something better on the other side of the curtain. But for a few suns more... Time will ease the pain, but hold on to the good memories.

My condolences MWR. Both of my parents are gone and both of wife's are still with us. Like Areo said, remember the good times and be thankful that he is no longer suffering. I will pray for you & your family. Do what you can for MIL. Small things at times like these mean a lot.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My FIL passed away on our anniversary, but he was 75. Not old enough, but alot easier to take than 57. He had lived a good life, which is what you have to remember. You know he's at a better place resting in peace.

My condolences. My fil passed in april. He had a weak heart for several years.He left 9 young grandkids. The oldest is 8. Mine kids were ages 3 and 5 when he passed. Celebrate his life, for them to remember him. My mil is learning to do alot of tasks for herself now, I help as much as I can. Yours will need your help and support as well. My thoughts are with your family. Its so hard to watch someone waste away, especially when that person knows the day is coming.
