Some of you may remember me posting a while back that my FIL has cancer and he is whithering away. Well he was put in the hospital on Sunday and he is now in a drug induced coma which he will never come out of and his heart medication has been stopped. `However at the first part of the week he was in a horrible searing pain from the cancer and he had 6 IVs in him and it still was not stopping all the pain. I have never ever seen anyone suffer like that and I hope I never do again. I got to say goodbye to him and tell him thanks for everything. I told my mother inlaw that she needed to get him into the Hospice wing in the hospital now and to stop the heart medication which keeps his blood pressure up to a normal level. His blood psi now is 65/40. Today I will be taking my 5 year old son to see Grandpa for the last time, so that he can see him "sleeping" It is a catholic hospital and a priest has administered the last rites. My FIL is 59 years old, just retired 3 years ago, real sad. He smoked 2 packs of Winstons a day for 40 years. My wife and I told my Mother inlaw that we will help with funeral expenses. Just had to vent a little.

A few years ago, I watched my brother in law go from the youngest 65 year old I had ever met to a very old man in 6 months from cancer. The last 3 months he suffered horribly, even with huge doses of morphine and other pain reducers. It was really awful to watch him suffer and decline, and then die.

I decided then and there that I would never allow myself to die that way if I ever got terminal cancer, and was told that there was no hope of recovery. Before I got to the point I could no longer do it myself, I would take an overdose of various medications I have squirreled away over the years, and just die without so much suffering. I realize that this would not be legal, but ending my life that way would not get anyone else in trouble.

Take care in this very difficult time.....I am truly sorry for you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear about your Father in law. Take good care of your wife. If see was close to her dad it will hit her very hard and she will need you more than ever. You think you are strong until you lose a parent.

The North Little Rock police chaplin told me "All the boats, tractors ,houses and stuff mean absolutly nothing in the end. It's only the realationships you have had with people that matter." Hang in there and God bless you, family and freinds.

Thats right, in the final hours of your life all the money in the world will not save your life and it will not get you into heaven.

May you and your family find strength from knowing that better days are ahead for everyone. It's hard to say goodbye.
Last year my Wife and I went through losing her Mother and Mine within 3 weeks of each other. Both were in the same care center, and both ended up passing away in the same room. Hospice was used in both cases.

My regards and prayers for you and your family during this very difficult time. Life is always to short it seems when we face losing a loved one, and the void when they are gone is never filled. I was diagnosed with cancer just after my 60th birthday, and went through all of that wretched treatment. Sometimes is seems that what is given is worse than the disease, but at least I have been given some more time to spend with those I love. Of course heaven is not a bad prospect, but it is the seperation from those that we love.

I know now that chemotreatments are way of getting 6-10 months of life out of person so that they can say goodbye, finish the will, see the grandkids, stay at home and then get buried. The quality of life goes down every month that goes by. I have seen chemo do this to my FIL, a friends dad 2 years ago and an aunt that I had 16 years ago, all of the cases were months instead of weeks to live. Best wishes to you.

You have all my sympathy. My dad died of cancer a number of years ago in a similar manner. Pain and suffering the last 2-3 weeks. That is why I say hurrah for Oregon and their legal euthanasia law. No one should be forced to suffer like that if they choose not to.

I dont agree with assisted suicide. However I agree with putting terminal patients in a comatose state with massive pain killers fed into them with an IV.

Please accept my sympathy. I have lost two loved ones to cancer. It is hard to understand the struggle they go through near the end.

My father is in St. Joes west in the Sterling Hts. area. He is 59 but smoking for 40 years catches up with you, he may have started smoking when he was 14 or 15 years old, dont know. I strongly agree with not selling kids cigarettes. I wish I could have taken a 1 minute video of my FIL in the state he was in 2 days ago. I would bet that some people seeing him would quit smoking right then after seeing him.
