found a barrel of diesel with pump but the pump was broken, 5 gal diesel can still use it, one new 8 ft step latter, blasting caps, beer,a duffel bag full of clothes and some of them fit, new lumber, tie down straps , small tools, carpet and that really works good for standing in front of the work beach, when it's dirty just throw it in the shop stove, fishing tackle and people needing help.

I only found one thing along side the road and that was a ladies pocket book that had been stolen from in town the night before. Obviously turned that into the police.

The most valuable thing I lost was a set of tire chains for my pick-up. Had them in a plastic container. Lost them someplace between Schenectady NY and Bennington VT. So who found them???

My neighbor and I were out collecting pop bottles for the refund money when I was a kid. We had a regular route along the two state highways joined bay a country road. We found a burlap sack of puppies, all still alive, but probably dehydrated. Took 'em home and put them on baby pablum then dog chow and scraps. We were able to give them all away eventually.

Well I've found a few things in all my years but nothing that compares with the items listed here.

I did have a bank teller where I was cashing my payroll check give me $134???, can't remember the exact odd amount, so I sent it back (drive thru) and told her to recount the amount again.

The next week the same thing hapened with the same teller and once again $134. I really tried to figure out the odd amount she was giving me extra but couldn't. There was no numbers on the check that could have been misread for the amount she was giving me. She thanked me again for returning the amount.

The third week I kept the money as I figured they must of had too much money and was giving it away.

The fourth week and there on, there were no mistakes!!!

Back when I was between the ages of 6 and 12 I would constantly find Playboys. I would read the print right off the pages. Learned some tips and tricks that I still use to this day.

Fresh ruffed grouse.

They're so wild around here and there's so much foliage they're almost impossible to shoot. My best year of hunting them I got eight: four road kills, two windows, and two I shot.

My wife with my best buddy, never understood caus it wasn't exactly a real hot day for the amount of cloths they had on. Not allowed to ask her anymore,--- as her attorney thinks I have to ask HIM the questions first. Oh well go figure.

Other than that I did find a brand new trailer tire and rim, a month later the school borrowed my trailer with the new spare, and for some reason the road was rougher than they figured, and yea-- they put the new found treasure along side the road for another treasure hunter perhaps. NE IA Dave

When I was in college, riding along a back road with a car full of buddies we found a big cardboard box right in the middle of the road.
After much deliberation we decided to check it out.
A particularly brave (read stupid) friend of mine walked right over and opened the box and much to our amazement it was filled with..... ..... ....

..... ..... ..... ..treasure to a group of 20 year old young men..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .
dozens of adult videos and magazines.

Well we really thought we were being videotaped, so we were very uneasy. Finally the driver of the car popped his trunk and threw the box in there and we lit out of there.
The loot was divided up and the bunch of us were changed forever. Honestly the story of what happened was more entertaining that the contents of that box.
Well, at least I can say that now.

A pair of fence pliers, and a big pair of linemans pliers... and a hammer.. framing. Which i traded to a buddy for a smaller one.

Dad and I were just joking today about getting two of those big hanging bar magnets like you see them using to clean up parking lots, around loading docks, etc and hanging it from the rear bumper of our service trucks. That way when you saw something good in the road be it a bungee cord, cresent wrench, or whatever all you had to do was swerve a little and let the magnet catch it. Like I said we were joking but when you think of all the stuff left lying, it is a tempting idea.....

Numerous a grease gun, hand tools, wrenches, screwdrivers, chains, etc. Best one however was a practically new 12ga shotgun. Was taking my mother to church one slippery winter morning, and chose to take the route past the backside of our place. Went thru a wooded area, and noted a bunch of litter, so on the way back, I stopped to clean it up. Just happened to look toward a pine tree along the side of the road. "What the heck is that trombone case doin" there?" Further examination proved it to be a shotgun in a somewhat damaged plastic case. Looking around a little more, I found that someone had skidded, and did a glancing blow off a small stump along the roadside. Left several pieces of trim and a mirror. Was able to identify the make and model and color of the pickup based on the parts. Turned the gun and case over to the local conservation officer. She kept it for about a year, and when no one claimed it, finally returned it to me. Had to keep reminding her that I still wanted it however. Based on the litter, the previous owner probably wsn"t too sober, and never realized he lost the gun outa the back of the truck, when he crashed into the stump. Probably had no idea where he was either!

Hi Red,

Out in the boondocks on a gravel road a friend and I found a rifle case in the road. My friend thought it was a trick or a bomb and didn't want to pick it up. I did. There was a Winchester rifle and some other items in it. After we found out what was in it, my friend, good Christian that he was always telling me that he was, didn't want to look for the owner even though there was some information to get us started. Through the local police we were able to locate the owner, yet we were eventually able to keep the stuff because, unlike the owner, neither of us was prohibited from owning firearms.

All the best, Stan

One day on the way to work I found a pair of truck duals and the axle shaft from one side on a truck. The shaft was sticking out into the road. Nearly hit it. A tandem truck must have broken an axle and it worked it's way out of the housing.

As a former Highway Construction Inspector, I've found LOTS for things! Found a brand new reciever hitch (for a Ford) still in the box, a couple of 20 ton hydraulic jacks, cash, chains, a nice ladder, tarps, tools galore, tires (old and new). Found a nice new mountain bike with a flat tire. I even found a motorcycle with a sign that said "Owner tired of me - load me up". Too much stuff to mention..... ...

kinda of a cooks choice mix of wrenches...a couple craftsman, some thorson, and a few generics for filler. i wish i had $1.19 for every tarp strap i see along the road though...

once came across a 86 chevy blazer, the flashers were on, still had the keys in it, just took a back tire...don't just know why anyone would have left it along the road, you'd of thought someone would have noticed that they lost it off, and come back...oh well.

kidding...

A fellow played guitar at one of our Gospel shows one evening. When he went home, he put his Martin guitar in the trunk of his '37 Dodge sedan, and left for home. When he got there, he found the trunk lid hadn't latched, and the guitar had slid out along the road! Heart-sick, he phoned the local radio talk show host, and told him what had happened. As luck would have it, a man going along that road found it, took it home, and retired for the night. Next morning, he turned on the same radio station, heard about the lost guitar, called in, and got the guy reunited with his guitar. And, he wouldn't take any reward for it! Some things do get returned, if ya can find who is the owner. I found a really nice reversible electric drill-box and all, on the road. Never found the owner! And, i got a better job, by warning a guy that he was about to drive away from the local cart track, with his safety helmets setting on the fender of his trailer! He told me to look him up if i needed a good job-which i did!
