Corn stove chimney question

Can one run a corn/pellet stove through normal stove pipe? I have an existing stove pipe chimney that I would like to use, but i was going to use the little 4" double wall stuff to get outside, then plumb in via an adaptor and use the existing chimney for the rest of the run.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

you don't really need the vertical part for the stoves...some of the furnaces need an actual chimney. but either way, stainless is required...the stuff coming out of the stoves is very corrosive.

Harman makes a corn stoker that does not require a regular chimney.

I have been doing much testing on corn burners with some major universitys. I can tell you the best way to vent but depends on stove and exaust temp.
Shoot me an e mail and i send my Phone #

The problem will be corrosion. Stainless should be used. How do I know? Experienced it!

To be done correctly, it should be vented in type "L" approved pipe...at least for the penetration through the outside wall with a proper thimble that will give you the correct clearance to combustible allowance. After that, you can do what your heart desires.

Good luck!

Oh, I probably should have added that Selkirk and Hart & Cooley make this type of pipe if you need to come by some.

Brian-my brother in law went through the outer wall through an insulated thimble, w regular stovepipe. He just went out through the wall without a vertical run and the thing drafts great.
