Hydraulic jack oil

Not actually a jack, it is a jet shop press. Bought it off a yard sale. Ment to put in universal hyd oil but think I used 10-30 by mistake. Will that hurt any thing? I guess its supposed to be jack oil or brake fluid isn't it?

Hyd. Jack oil is relabeled 10W oil.
Don't use brake fluid, will dissolve seals and o-rings.

You should be fine with the 10-30 motor oil. It may get a little thick on a cold day and make the jack work slow though.

Don�t use brake fluid. It will take the seals and O rings out in short order.

You probably can't tell the difference. In one Combustion Turbine plant I worked in it was SOP to use transmission fluid in all the hydraulic jacks. We had it in 55 gal drums for the torque converters on the CTs so it was readily available. As far as I know they're still using transmission fluid in the same jacks and Enerpacs 25 years later.
About the only thing I've heard of happening with the wrong oil is the seals will give it up....eventually.
