Any idea what the going rate is for the following shop rates:

Vertical Mill

Lathe

Drill press

Welding

Bench time

I know that most job shops charge between 40-50 per hour. I know of a few that will drop to $35/hour if they are real slow. The machine doesnt make a differance unless it is a CNC then it is $50/hour minimum. If you are looking to have work done then I would pay the guy a fair price (35-40 per hour)

The shop I used to work at that was tailored to a farmers needs charged around $45/ hour, irregardless of the machine or man doing the job. 2 guys means $90/hour. The shop I work at now charges $60/hour, but they don't particularily take in repair work from farmers and the like anymore. (not as fun for me either.....)

So the moral is, it doesn't matter what machine is being used or if any machine at all, it's the same rate as long as there is a man on the job.

Most machine shop rates are $45-$60/hour, I don't think the tool makes much difference unless they include tool setup time in the time charged.

$35 plus an hour. My shop rate is $35 and I do welding and also work on tractors but I do it as a hobby so my ratesa are low compared to most shops in the area
