Picked up a Miller 44G Spirit of 76 welder. Its been in a shed for 10 years or so. Acouple valves in the Cont engine were stuck but it ran and would charge about 80 volts ac at the work plug, but the engine would not make rpm. I freed up the valves and got it running good and now it won't charge at all. The wiring under the hood looks like spaghetti. I do see the points gap on the welder portion are corroded, but from what I understand that only affects the welding. Any tips?

Don't know anything about your welder, but it sounds like a PTO generator when it loses it's residual magenetism for the field. Field needs to be excited in order for it to start charging. It should say in the manual for your welder how to do this, otherwise I've seen on these forms suggestions on plugging a 110 volt drill into the outlet on the generator and spinning it backwards, the drill creats a current flow which recharges the magnets so the generator will start charging again. I've never tried it but might be worth trying. Gene
